The current head instructor at East County Karate is Mr. Nathan Morton. Mr. Morton trained in Karate for over 3 years. He was a student of the late founder Mr. Pipkin for over 2 years and and acheived the rank of Sankyu (3rd level brown belt). He has been under a good friend of Mr. Pipkins' Sensei Andy Eros at KarateHeroes in Kensington for 1 year and currently trains weekly when not teaching at ECK.
East County Karate was founded on April 2, 1999 by Sensei Chris Pipkin. He had trained at Pacific Martial Arts in Old Town for over 20 years obtaining the rank of 3rd dan black belt. Unfortunatley, Mr. Pipkin passed away due to a motorcylce accident on September 25, 2019. Mr. Nathan Morton took over the dojo on September 30, 2019 in his honor. At ECK, our goal is to provide a greater understanding to what martial arts is all about and becoming the best version of oursleves while learning practical and traditonal Japanese Karate. The specific style we train in is called Washin Ryu Shotokan Karate-Do. Washin Ryu was created in the United States by Master Hidy Ochiai of Japan in 1966.
